Shelley Catherine Hennig born January 2, is an American actress and model. Hennig Sr. Rose, Louisiana , and later moved to Destrehan, Louisiana. Three years before she won the Miss Teen USA title, one of her older brothers was killed in an accident caused by a drunk driver. This was the first time she competed in the state pageant. She was quoted in Soap Opera Digest , saying: "It just feels right. I have been preparing for this for a while, so I have said my mental good-byes. I will miss the faces I see here every day, but everybody has been really encouraging and has embraced my decision I feel like I'm going out with a bang after last week's show airs and I feel great about it creatively and I am thankful to the writers for giving me that. It's been a lot of fun to play and I wouldn't change anything.

For Destrehan native Shelley Hennig, the stars have aligned. It was about gaining confidence and garnering experiences that she thought might help with a career in dance. But winning that competition changed the course of her life, because it meant representing her state in the larger Miss Teen USA pageant. Hennig won the whole enchilada. Around the time she was finishing up at the conservatory, she was invited to attend the Miss Universe pageant — not as a competitor, but as a guest. While there, her acting coach, who attended the pageant with her, suggested she go to Los Angeles. The audition went so well that she was offered a part on the soap and was told to have her agent and attorney look over the contract. She had neither, and scrambled to find someone who could read the fine print and get the contract back to the studio fast. Most actors will tell you that the rigors of doing a daily soap opera, with extensive lines and limited takes, will prepare you for anything in the acting arena. Hennig's conservatory training and real-life experiences on the daytime drama were a great steppingstone for what would follow.
