Shelly 1 is a small form factor smart switch with potential-free contacts, which allows remote control of electric appliances through a mobile phone, tablet, shelly 1 wiring, PC, or home automation system. It can work standalone in a local Wi-Fi network or it can also be operated through cloud home automation services. In my opinion the biggest problem with the shelly devices is that they all look really similar, even though they definitely have different applications. A new automator could be easily overwhelmed by all the different devices, and end up with the wrong one, or just decide to skip shelly all together, which would be a shame, because shelly has done so much right. When I first reviewed the shelly 1 in August one of the main selling points was how easy it was to install custom firmware like Tasmota, but in I stopped bothering with tasmota on my shelly devices because the factory firmware can function completely locally, and includes all the protocols I want like MQTT, CoAP and REST. The shelly needs to be placed behind the switch next to the lightbulb. From that switch, take the wire going to the light and connect it to the shelly output. Take a new piece of wire from shelly SW to the forme switch light output. Shelly input needs to be configured into edge mode. Been looking at the diagrams over here but the differences between the Shelly1L and 1, plus the fact that my switches seem to be wired backwards to what it shows there is also confusing me. I always end up in a situation where the shelly can control the light, but only with the switches in a certain position. And the switches can control the light but only in a certain shelly state….

It also means that you can feel free to use the SW terminal and other GPIO pins on the shelly1 for whatever you want when powered with a 12V source because unlike when powering with mains voltage, these will be referenced to ground and are safe to use. Connect the SW switched live input from shelly to the switched live sleeved neutral connector block. You can then repeat the process of checking for firmware in the settings tab and it should work as expected. If it's plasterboard then you can fit a deeper backbox. There is a neutral in the switch but it's impossible to fit the Shelly behind the switch due to space. Your shelly will then reboot and join your network. The switched live which was going to the light switch needs to go to the O utput on the shelly. I saw what you said here: You could still connect it, but you would have to leave your lightswitch on all the time. It's a garage light switch fused with another switch at the other end of the garage. For example, Live in the above example will need a 4 way, the switched live will need a 2 way. You do not want to bridge two circuits in any circumstance. Connect up the neutral as well, job done. Easy to add in the loft. But it could just be the bulb which is the issue. This is a simple guide on how to automate UK lights with a Shelly 1 by installing the shelly 1 relay into the ceiling pendant which has both permanent live, neutral and a switched live back from the wall switch. Connect the L ive from the permanent live block to the Shelly. Its an led lamp anyways and I dont want to replace it with a smart bulb plus this is my first ever Shelly and I am itching badly to use it :D. Any advice welcome?
