Shunsui

Although he might not necessarily be the strongest Shinigami in the Gotei 13 by a large margin, there is no doubt that very few characters in Bleach would be able to last long against Shunsui Kyoraku. One of the longest-serving members of Soul Society's military wing, and its current Captain-Commander, Shunsui's reputation is the stuff of legend, having trained under the Gotei 13's previous Captain-Commander Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto. Highly proficient in all arenas of Shinigami combat skills, Shunsui is the complete package, and most of his fights in Bleach have served to gradually showcase the full extent of his power when applied in appropriate situations. Furthermore, his experience, tactical acumen, and intelligence all serve to augment his raw power, which can match even the strongest in Soul Society. That being said, how strong is he when compared to some of the other monstrous allies and opponents the Gotei 13 has encountered over the years? Well versed in virtually all Shinigami combat skills , to a degree where he could somehow keep up with his mentor Yamamoto, Shunsui's fighting style combines misdirection, efficient use of force, and adaptability. He is an extremely skilled swordsman, and can fight with either hand equally by virtue of being ambidextrous. Able to fight Espada level opponents on an equal footing with only his sealed Zanpakuto, Shunsui's laid back attitude often leads him to hold back in battles until he is really tested. However, on gauging his opponent's relative strength, he is efficient and measured with his attacks, constantly looking for openings in their guard to take advantage of. He has also shown a fair degree of proficiency in both Hakuda and Kido, able to perform complex moves such as Tsukiyubi to send opponents flying with only his fingers, or use Hado up to 78 without incantation. Even among the Captains of the Gotei 13, Shunsui can exert a truly monstrous level of Reiatsu. He is one of the few who could withstand attacks from Yamamoto, and was not even fazed by his mentor's Reiatsu, which usually overwhelms all around him. Lastly, Shunsui is also an expert user of Shunpo, with even Yamamoto commending him on his speed. In its sealed state, his Zanpakuto is actually a pair of blades, consisting of a tachi and a wakizashi, making him one of the few dual wielders in Soul Society alongside his old friend Jushiro Ukitake.

Even among the Shunsui of the Gotei 13, Shunsui can exert a truly monstrous level of Reiatsu. Shunsui tends to use a more casual speech style than many other captains, shunsui.

After the anime's untimely end, Bleach fans had only the manga to follow the adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki and Soul Society. Considering Tite Kubo's brilliance at crafting a story and embedding it within frames of exquisite art, however, this didn't turn out to be such a bad deal. One of the most radical new developments that occurred in the un-televised Thousand-Year Blood War Arc happened to be the narrative of Shunsui Kyoraku—the playful but powerful Squad 8 Captain with his iconic flowery pink haori.

Ukitake warned Shunsui not to release his Bankai "where others can see. After being chastised by Yamamoto, he asked about the painting in his room, and Yamamoto replies that it was a monster that caused strife when it was around. However, Shunsui emerges unscathed from this and activates the first level of his Bankai, causing Lille's body to gain wounds matching his own. Ukitake then asks Shunsui to release him as he wanted to save his subordinates. Shunsui then replies that while he is uncertain of it, in a hundred years or so, it is possible that Hitsugaya might become more powerful than himself. Recognized by them as Ichigo Kurosaki's acquaintance and a captain of the Gotei 13, he says he has come to tell them something about their parting with Ichigo. And in the interest of pushing Starrk to reveal an opening, he even implicitly suggested offing Lilynette Gingerbuck personally — actually proposing to kill an innocent and harmless child — if only because it was under his belief that "even he [Stark] could not remain calm if she was in trouble". More than its complexity, the fearsome finality of this power is a terrifying proposition for anyone to contend with, which is why Shunsui's power is held in such high esteem by many. After Nanao leaves, Shunsui proceeds to explain the rules of Daruma-san ga Koronda to Lille, who notes its similarities to a game he knows of called Chocolate Ingles before theorizing how the technique itself works and claiming that Shunsui would have died had he been noticed. He is a highly adaptable combatant as his two swords have allowed him to become ambidextrous, meaning that he is able to switch hands between the two swords. According to Shunsui, "if you win you live, if you lose you die". When Ukitake questions the necessity of that level of power, Shunsui tells him he guesses that just means Yamamoto is not in a good mood.

The Gotei 13 are the protectors of Soul Society, organizing the Shinigami into a military. Each of the 13 divisions is led by a captain, all of whom are a force to be reckoned with on any battlefield.

However, Lille merely opens his left eye before explaining to Shunsui how having both his eyes open allows him to use The X-Axis. His might was also later recognized by being promoted to the status of Captain-Commander. At some point in Shunsui's Academy days, Shunsui trespassed into Yamamoto's room. Ukitake states that they had failed to realize this. It quickly sold out, partially due to there being less copies released than similar collections by the other captains. After stating that this is merely the prologue, Shunsui shifts to the second level of his Bankai, which causes black spots to appear all over Lille's body, and relates a story of a man wounded in battle whose grief turned into illness before using the third level of his Bankai, which engulfs both him and Lille in water, as he reveals that they will both remain there until one of them has their Reiatsu run out. While fights begin to break out, Jugram Haschwalth is the first to come into contact with Shunsui. He started his culinary journey as an apprentice at Yamazato at Hotel Okura Amsterdam, the first Michelin awarded Japanese restaurant in Europe. Blade Battlers 2nd. Seeing this, Shunsui goes to attack the Arrancar, but is quickly shot at point blank range by a Cero to the back by Starrk, with both captains falling down to the buildings below. With the other Shinigami silent, Shunsui is asked by Aizen to take off the rest of the seals. Despite the two swords becoming identical in this state, Shunsui has stated they still serve as one the wakizashi being used mainly for speed strikes, and the other the tachi being used mainly for power strikes. He then calls forth Captain Retsu Unohana , stating that he will leave Zaraki to her as she is the 1st Kenpachi. This vandal was a part of a rebel army against Soul Society , and as such, he was to be terminated.
