The King Slime is a totally optional boss in Terraria , as in you don't need to defeat it to progress through the game. He lacks the crown on the Old-gen console and 3DS versions of the game. Fighting King Slime is not required for game progression , but his defeat may reward the player with useful items. Defeating him for the first time also causes the Nerdy Slime Desktop, Console and Mobile versions town pet to spawn from the boss. King Slime can be summoned manually anywhere and at any time using the Slime Crown. Slimes killed by lava do not count towards the total unless the player deals damage to them first.

King Slime is a boss that has three ways of being encountered. It has a chance to spawn randomly in the two outer thirds of the map, it can be summoned with a Slime Crown , or after defeating enough slimes during a Slime Rain. It drops a random piece of the Ninja Set upon death. King Slime is not immune to lava. Dynamite works very well against it, but is difficult to immobilize correctly as King Slime is large, difficult to trap, and can teleport. An advisable strategy for beginners is to make a small box in the ground with the top open.
