Kingfishers are a schedule one protected species, which means that photography at or near a nest, or while the birds are with dependant young, would put you at potential risk of prosecution if you were judged to have caused disturbance and Kingfishers can be quite easily disturbed when breeding. However, outside of the breeding season there are no restrictions to photography - other than the fact that they can be very wary and are likely to fly off well before you are close enough for a photo! At this time of year some Kingfishers might still be nesting, so if you want to try and get photos make sure that you watch from a distance first until you are certain that they are not nesting anywhere near the place where you plan to try and take the photos from. If you are unsure whether there may be a nest nearby then it is best to stay away, and wait until later in the year before trying to get some shots. Oh a 1st Kingfisher is a great thrill!! I never tire of seeing them. They are so strikingly coloured.

I have been an educator in and out of classrooms for over ten years. All of my credentialed, bilingual teaching experience has been in the Hayward Unified School District HUSD because I am a former student and graduate and feel a strong desire to give back to my community. I have also served as a youth enrichment leader and director for multiple after school and summer recreational programs for teenagers, which were also designed to train them to become future summer camp and after school leaders. Between , I taught on the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua where my family was born, raised, and emigrated from. I also designed, facilitated, and presented workshops for English teachers across Nicaragua and I collaborated closely with the Ministry of Education, R. S division. I believe there is so much power in the eye-opening process that occurs through international experiences, which almost always leads totransformative reflections and life changes. We introduce a new method, differential language analysis DLA , for studying human development in which computational linguistics are used to analyze the big data available through online social media in light of psychological theory. Our open vocabulary DLA approach finds words, phrases, and topics that distinguish groups of people based on 1 or more characteristics. Using a data set of over 70, Facebook users, we identify how word and topic use vary as a function of age and compile cohort specific words and phrases into visual summaries that are face valid and intuitively meaningful. While in this study we focused primarily on common trends across age-related cohorts, the same methodology can be used to explore heterogeneity within developmental stages or to explore other characteristics that differentiate groups of people.
