A standalone mod for the original Stalker game is now available to download - a little earlier than planned. Lost Alpha redesigns and restores content cut from first-person shooter survival game Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl. But its release today comes sooner than expected - thanks to testers leaking a build from last year. This leaked version is not finished and not prepared to be released by any means. It contains render bugs that we've been working on since last year among the other ones that prevent smooth gameplay. We're now seeing the game's official launch sooner as a result, but its rushed release means that it won't be as polished as it could have been. We will try to update the game whenever we can to make it even better than it is now.

We were amazed by GSC's work when they released the first S. The old design, and atmosphere was stunning and we couldn't believe our eyes. Later in things has changed. They redesigned almost all old levels. Some of them became smaller, simpler still nice, but different , and some levels were removed. After the release in we played the game a lot, and quickly noticed that some areas are missing. We opened forums, and talked countless nights about those for almost a year. Nowdays we could say, we have a full vision about GSC's old levels, due to the collected materials, videos and forgotten screenshots. We decided to remake those stunning areas, maybe they won't be the same, but we will try everything to make them look really nice, as we always wanted to see them. In early , GSC released a build from , which contained many old materials.

It has a much bigger Zone and restores features such as vehicles to drive around the zone, factions fighting for power, a players actions affecting his or her reputation among factions and important stalkers, as well as numerous missions and plot elements that were once lost to time. As with the original game, the story is set in the year - some time after a second Chernobyl disaster which causes the heavily radioactive zone to expand greatly and further corrupt and pervert the Zone by filling it with hideous mutations and strange anomalies that burn flesh, crush bones, and even manipulate time and space itself. Soon brave but violent men known as Stalkers are drawn to the zone, seeking fame and fortune by hunting down artifacts created by the anomalies and selling them for a pretty penny or perhaps keeping them for the powers or buffs it may grant the stalker wielding it. The story proper follows a stalker known as "The Marked One," who was found alive among the wreckage of a 'Death Truck,' mysterious trucks that leave and enter the zone hauling corpses - often missing stalkers. He awakens with no recollection of who he was or why he was in the zone, left with only one memento: A PDA commanding him to 'Kill The Strelok.

Have you ever dreamt of playing the old, forgotten S. Many cues have been taken from the original S. R alpha and beta footage and Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat. The anomalies from the original S. R have been added into this game, along with some new anomalies, which also produce different artifacts. For the most part armour carries over form Shadow of Chernobyl and there are limited possibilities for suit repairing and upgrading if the player has the wherewithal and inclination to track the Technicians down. They are much less prominent than in Clear Sky for example.

This walkthrough is based on Lost Alpha version 1. Each time I play through I find mistakes or a better way, so this is still a work in progress. You start by waking up in Sidorovich's bunker with the traditional task: Kill Strelok. A cut-scene shows Marked One getting out of bed and ends with the Find out information about yourself task. The doorway up to Sidorovich is over your right shoulder. The dresser next to the doorway has all your stuff, so you may want to collect it except for the sleeping bag before heading up the stairs. You won't need the sleeping bag for another 24 hours. NOTE: With Lost Alpha, you must put ammo on your belt in order to load it, which you can do by dragging or double-clicking. Also, for reasons that I'll explain later, it is best to use a separate suit and head gear outfit instead of a closed-cycle suit.
