My car is a Scion tC AT. It does not crank when I turn the key. If I hook up jumper cables same thing, no crank. I went through tests to see what it may be and had help going through some of this with some guys on ifixit. Using a Multimeter, I checked the basics to see if I had solid connections. I verified the solenoid, the starter, the alternator, the battery, the battery cables and etc. I then started to take a look at the fuses. They all seem to look fine nothing appears burnt out. Somewhere in the starting system there is a disconnect. I decided to ground the terminals in which the fuse is placed. Knowing the old Fuse appeared to look in good shape, and a new one made no difference I ruled that out as the problem. My next thought was it is the neutral safety switch, if not possibly the ignition switch. With that being said, I went to try and ground the NSS. My hope was to narrow down that the NSS was the problem.
Fuse boxes in car usually have empty fuse sockets for future features. Related Topics. Likes:
Cars have various electrical components that require a fuse to protect against short circuits. There are two fuse boxes, one located near the engine or under the hood and the other is located near the driver seat. The car fuse box under the hood protects engine components including engine control unit ECU , cooling fan, ABS motor and battery. Whereas the fuse box near the dashboard protects cabin components like power windows, interior lights, radio or infotainment system and turn signals. A car fuse box has a series of different fuses, relays and diodes to protect the electrical circuits from overload or short circuit.
Ad vertisements. These are items designed to protect an electrical circuit from overcurrent and prevent exceeding its current-carrying capacity. To clarify, they are the only protection for all electrical equipment installed in your car:. If there is overcurrent in the circuit, a fuse blows, disconnecting an appliance from the power supply. Thus, it protects the appliance from failure. In this case, you need simply to replace it to solve the problem. What does a blown fuse look like? Inspect a metal strip fusible element. A damaged one means the fuse has blown. If so, you need to replace it.

If electrical parts in your vehicle are not working, the system may have been overloaded causing a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker. Here you will find various information related to automotive fuses — the location of units, fuse box diagrams, fuse layouts, and assignment of the fusible links, circuit breakers, fuses, and relays. They burn out due to exceeding the permitted load in the electrical circuit. This may be due to the connection of additional equipment, short circuits, wear and tear or jamming of motors, and other causes. The easiest method is to visually inspect the fuse — if the fusible element inside the fuse is damaged, the fuse has blown. You can also check it with a multimeter. The circuit breakers will reset themselves and allow the electrical parts to work again once the overload on the circuit is removed. Relays are devices that receive signals from components or systems.

If the problem requires technical eyes and a diagnostic scan to identify the cause of the blown fuse, consult auto technicians to get the job done. Any helpful input would be much appreciated. The car fuse box under the hood protects engine components including engine control unit ECU , cooling fan, ABS motor and battery. I also found the fuse puller under the hood, so yes, lesson learned. It may be low. How to check the fuses? Even fully accessorised cars may have empty sockets for features that may be added later by the manufacturers. Best of luck. Quote message in reply? Start up problem. Car fuse ampere rating is important when buying new fuses from the market For instance, if a fuse with lower ampere rating is used it will blow too soon and the connected component will not function. You have already rated this thread Rating:. Diodes are often built-in with relays to allow the flow of dc current in one direction. A short happens when there is a poor connection between two conductors supplying electricity, which then causes an overload to the circuit.
Estimated wait for next available agent :. If you're installing a car amplifier that needs a turn-on signal or a low-power device that requires 12 volts, you can get the voltage you need by tapping into your vehicle's fuse box with a fuse tap.

At that point I would assume it is a bad battery since it would be even okder. Glad it was the fuse under the hood. Any ideas what the spark could have done? I went through tests to see what it may be and had help going through some of this with some guys on ifixit. The fuse box depends on the electrical components of the specific car. AVS Forum.
