Stones of Barenziah are unusual gems found in Skyrim. Finding one of these unlocks new miscellaneous quest, Bring the Unusual Gem to an appraiserin which one of these stones must be identified by one of several appraisers; two of which are Maul in Riften and Vexstone of barenziah, part of The Thieves' Guildalso in Riften.

Stones of Barenziah are a widely scattered collection of twenty-four gemstones in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that are found across Skyrim. Prior to appraisal, each Stone of Barenziah is labeled as an "Unusual Gem. After the appraisal, it is revealed that a total of 24 Stones of Barenziah exist, which activates the quest " No Stone Unturned. Many of these stones can be found while completing small jobs for Vex and Delvin of the Thieves Guild. Since the stones are quest items, they do not take up weight in the inventory. Vex reveals that the Crown of Barenziah is an item that enhances a thief's ability. With the stones and crown in her possession, Vex says she can restore the paragon to its full strength.

In your travels about Skyrim, you will come upon an ornate jewel one of twenty-four spread across Skyrim called an Unusual Gem. Subsequent actions after you acquire one of these gems depends on your membership status with the Thieves Guild. Once you have access to The Ragged Flagon , seek out Vex for her appraisal of the gem. She will tell you that it is one of twenty-four stones that were pried from the crown of Queen Barenziah by a thief in an attempt to cover his tracks, and that only the complete set of twenty-four stones would be worth anything. If Maul does not tell you to find Brynjolf, you can seek him out yourself. If you are a full member of the Thieves Guild when you pick up the first stone, the quest is immediately activated with the objective: "Bring the Unusual Gem to Vex in the Thieves Guild".
