There are multiple tunings being used on the original recording. The main harmonic foundation is created by a string acoustic guitar in D standard tuning. There are other guitars being played as well, including ones in open D tuning notably in the intro and standard tuning. I will just be demonstrating the D standard tuned guitar part, since that gives a nice full harmonic foundation to the song. These will be the same chords you can see Joe Egan playing in the official video. Note that he is singing in the video, but he is just miming the vocals since it was Gerry Rafferty who actually sung on the track. But Rafferty had left the band by the time the video was filmed, hence Egan stepping in to replace him.
