This article contains unmarked spoilers. Players new to the game would want to avoid or be cautious toward this article. Leviathan is a classification given to extremely large creatures of the Subnautica universe. Although the wording of the Reaper Leviathan 's databank entry would seem to imply that the leviathan classification is exclusive to predatory life forms, this is not the case; any fauna species of a suitable size can be classified as a Leviathan. Although the term "Leviathan" is used to refer to a large mythical aquatic creature in the real world, there is no confirmation on whether the Leviathan classification is restricted to fauna in the Subnautica universe, or is simply the term used for any species of a sufficient size. Leviathan is not part of a taxonomic classification, so does not imply any of the species classified as such are related. In fact, the only two that appear to have any close relation are the Sea Emperor Leviathan and Sea Dragon Leviathan who share several features including an almost identical body shape, seven identically positioned tentacles dotted with glowing spots, two forelimbs and a pair of light-producing organs atop their snouts.

Proceed with caution. A leviathan class creature is near. It is the main threat of these cave systems and it will relentlessly hunt down its prey. The Shadow Leviathan has an elongated black body with smooth skin and twin rows of 37 small red spots running from behind the head to just before the tip of the tail. Below each row of red spots is a shorter row of eight circular gill pores that run down the side. The head is composed of a triangular shovel-like structure featuring three pairs of dark eyes with jet black pupils ringed with bright red. The creature's mouth is located on its underside just behind the head: it is a glowing blue tone, and lined with curved teeth resembling a ribcage. The mouth appears to pass food directly into the creature's stomach. Seven pairs of jointed clawed appendages run down the sides of the mouth. These have spines along the inside edge to assist in securing prey.

In this portion we'll cover the various Leviathan Class Organisms present in the game. Visit this page to see the giant, sometimes dangerous and deadly leviathans in the game. Not all of them are predators, but they are all huge! So far, leviathans seem to be organized by size instead of biome, diet or other characteristics. Some are important to the story and encountered during story progress, like the Ice Worm. Others, like the Glow Whale are nice to encounter but are not necessary to the plot, and you will never see the Void Chelicerate unless you go looking for it.
Glow Whale The Glow whale is a large filter-feeder that can be found in the Lilypads biome and the east arctic. It is not agressive towards the player and can be interacted with. It is the first herbivorous leviathan the player will encounter. It is approximately 30 meters long. Ventgarden Juvenile The Ventgarden juvenile is a medium-sized leviathan that gets its nutrients from geothermal vents and has a garden inside of it as the name suggests. It lives in the Tree spires. It has also stated that Subnautica 2 won't have traditional live-service elemtsn such as a battle pass or microtransactions, but will be supported with additional content for "many years to come". Original story follows. Subnautica 2 will be a live-service multiplayer game directly following the original, as revealed by a new earnings report from publisher Krafton. The original Subnautica does not have multiplayer, though there are of course mods as fans have been eager to play it with friends since it launched back in So, introducing multiplayer in an official capacity to the sequel is a huge leap, but the GaaS model accompanying it is already proving controversial with the community. I hate how nowadays multiplayer means predatory business model and gating the fun behind [a] paywall. Others are simply confused at how GaaS would work with a Subnautica game, but we have seen other survival titles like Palworld and Nightingale adopt live-service models recently. In , another Krafton financial report revealed that the next Subnautica would launch in early , but that appears to have changed as the new document says it's coming later this year. To boot, it finally has a name.
