This article contains lore based on real-life sources from Norse Mythology as introduced from the God of War Norse Era. Famed for their architectural skills, renowned blacksmiths and outstanding builders, the Dwarves also display unparalleled business and financial accumen, meticulously exploiting their virtually unlimited resources in perfect symbiosis with their homeworld. Thanks to their wise management, it is safe to assume that Svartalfheim thrives much better than any other realm. The warm and wet environement of Svartalfheim as well as its particular geology greatly favored the development of Dwarven infrastructures all around the realm, which in turn facilitated the establishement of numerous workshops and pitmines, from where the Dwarves extracted their high quality ore. Displaying an unparalleled talent in architecture, they built exquisite houses that gradually gave birth to small and reclusive communities. Traditionally associated with smithy and weaponry, Svartalfheim is also the richest realm in minerals and natural resources, making it the financial heart of the Norse realms. Even though the Dwarves are rather unwelcoming and discreet people, unwilling to share the secrets of their homeworld or mix themselves with the other races, they inevitably caught the attention of the Aesir , who needed high quality weapons and Svartalfheim's mineral resources to ensure their conquest of the Nine Realms. But instead of conquering the Dwarven realm by force, Odin cleverly chose to blackmail them by economical means, thanks to the advices of his best partner in crime. Since Svartalfheim was in no position to put up a fight, the Aesir progressively imposed a forced industrialization of the realm by the setting up of mining rigs, harvesting ore for armaments and fat from marine cetaceans for oil, all to Asgard's sole benefit. The cities and key installations were placed under Aesir surveillance, and many alarm systems cleverly installed. The environmental pollution caused by this campaign of industrialization eventually forced the Dwarves to rely more and more on Asgard in order to get food, slowly but surely strenghtening Odin's hold on the the realm.

Svartalfheim is one of the Nine Realms you can visit in God of War Ragnarok, and contains a vast amount of regions you can explore during your adventures. It is one of the first realms you can visit during the main quest, and also holds many optional side areas to explore. This page contains an overview of all of Svartalfheim's regions, including collectible locations, side quests, secrets, and optional boss fights in the realm. Many regions in Svartalfheim cannot be fully completed until you return later in the game. Svartalfheim is the land of the Dwarves, where Brok and Sindri originally hail from. A steaming wetland, it is marked by geysers, rivers, and bays surrounded by mountains and pitmines that the dwarves have dug into, as well as building settlements throughout the realm. In order to secure their protection, most dwarves have sworn their loyalty to Odin and the Aesir at the cost of their own liberty, and the signs of their forced servitude are evident everywhere.

Dwarves are master smiths and craftsmen who live below the ground, and so, Nidavellir or Svartalfheim was probably viewed as a labyrinthine, subterranean mine, and forge complex. A dark and smoky place, only the torches on the walls and the fires from the forge illuminate it. Historically, the dwarves were associated with craftsmanship and magic. In the Prose Edda, Svartalfheim is only mentioned twice. In the second scenario, Loki discovers and captures Andvari to seize his cursed gold. All of these stories are set in what is known as the land of the black elves, but they do not seem to concern beings we would think of as elves. According to general consensus, the inhabitants of Svartalfheim are dwarves. Traditionally, dwarfs are described as short, stocky, and extremely skilled craftsmen. Sturluson describes the dwarves as being inky black in his Prose Edda, although not all tales portray them in this manner. Besides being craftsmen, they are also magical creatures, and many old tales portray them as shapeshifters.

Svartalfheim, the Realm of Master Craftsmen:. Svartalfheim holds a unique place as one of the Nine Worlds. Known as the dwelling of the Dark Elves, who are frequently referred to as Dwarves in several accounts, this realm is imagined as a subterranean world shrouded from the bustling life on the surface. Svartalfheim is visualized as a mysterious and shadowy underground territory, distinctly marked by its labyrinthine tunnels, cavernous landscapes, and precious ore veins. It is in these hidden recesses that the Dwarves exercise their legendary craftsmanship, gaining renown as unparalleled artisans, blacksmiths, and jewelers. Esteemed for their ability to create potent weapons, intricate ornaments, and a multitude of valuable artifacts, the Dwarves are recognized as secretive beings who treasure the seclusion of their deep realms. Svartalfheim, when translated, means "Home of the Black Elves" or "Home of the Dark Elves," reinforcing the association with darkness and the underground environment in which these creatures thrive. While Svartalfheim might not occupy a dominant position in the chronicles of Norse mythology, the Dwarves residing here are woven into various legends and tales, due to their vital contributions in the form of extraordinary craftwork sought by gods and mortal heroes alike. Although Svartalfheim is not the central setting in many mythological tales, it finds its place in a number of ancient Norse writings and folklore. The Prose Edda, authored by the notable Snorri Sturluson, offers fragments of insights into this elusive realm.

Before you leave, grab a third bomb and carry it to the are just before the lore marker, before you climbed up the chain. When passing through here, you'll be fighting Grims, Wretches and the like. The C Rune is found just to the right of the Nornir Chest. Next, look around on your left for a Wind Vent, close to a ledge you can mount up.

The Legendary Chest in Nidavellir is visible from your first visit, however you cannot actually reach it until much later in the game. From the spot where you get Odin's Raven 1 described above, head right down the wooden ramp. Head to the Wetlands' Mystic Gateway, then hop into the boat and sail North. From the train stop, head down the wooden walkway and then divert right into a rocky area with ledges. There was no making things right this time. This causes explosions in the ground around Kratos that ends with an explosive shockwave, sending enemies flying. To reveal it, throw your Axe twice into the left side of the spinning paddles to the left of the bell. Luckily for you, there are a lot of goodies to discover here. Make your way through the elevator and climbing puzzles in this area until you use an explosive barrel to break three walls at once — opening an easy pathway back to the beginning of the area. Once you climb up the tower with a silver Legendary Chest on top, turn right and use the grapple point on the crane to leap over the gap. Return to the exit of the sewer passage Kratos passed through shortly after meeting Sindri, then face North. Svartalfheim is one of the Nine Realms of the World Tree, but Odin has sealed the path to this realm in order to prevent any alliance between the Dwarves and the Vanir. Following a bit of climbing, they reached their first destination: the Radsvinn's Rig. Once you arrive, head to the large wooden gate leading up to the mountain peak: the Rune Read will be on the right-hand wall. Standing in the same spot where you got the Things Left Behind Artifact, look up.
