Taraw cliff
This hike was an epic adventure!
We met our guide in front of the local bakery at 4. We then quietly walked through the nearby village at the base of the mountain until we reached the begining of the trail. They ensure the hike is safe for tourists by showing you the specific route to take up the mountain and also which rocks are stable. Doing this hike on your own would be really dangerous and if you injure yourself, you risk the entire hiking trail being closed down. I took my gloves off for a photo and cut my hand in just that short time. Hiking in the dark will likely feel a little scary and sketchy, so I just advise listening to your guide on where to climb and taking your time. The degree views are so rewarding and absolutely worth the climb.

We hope to give you helpful tips for your next trip on our blog. The hike up Taraw Cliff is really the most spectacular hike you can do in El Nido. You will climb the meter high Taraw Mountain in the dark before sunrise and have a spectacular view of El Nido and the whole bay and sea in front of you. The Taraw Cliff hike is officially no longer allowed, because a few years ago some tourists fell from the cliff and died. This is of course bad for the image and therefore the official hiking trail was closed without further ado.
Safety first!
Try this 1. Generally considered a challenging route. This is a very popular area for hiking and rock climbing, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. You'll need to leave pups at home — dogs aren't allowed on this trail. Currently boarded up and closed.
Jun 10, Philippines. Taraw Cliff in El Nido is a spectacular viewpoint overlooking El Nido bay with its rows of boats and nearby islands. From the bay looking back towards town, Taraw Cliff is the jagged cliff looming behind the town which looks impossibly pointy and not at all climbable. But there is a way to the top! Risk and reward, baby. If you think you can do the full climb, then we absolutely recommend it.

Their office is located within walking distance of El Nido town and bookings may be made in advance or you can just turn up on the day. For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance. If you love sunrises, this has to be on your Philippines Itinerary , as the sunrise is apparently spectacular from here. However, you do need to be ready to go by 4. Photography Camera. Day Bag. Once we cleared the final little ascent the view opened up and what a view it is. This is only possible before sunrise. Most people are in El Nido for island hopping, which is amazing but not really an adrenaline rush. We hiked without guide. This trail is closed for tourists, but accessible. Necessary Necessary. Some climbs are almost vertical, so you really have to pull yourself up the rock step by step while the guide explains to you where exactly your foot and hand should go next. You can climb this peak throughout the day as well but it is so beautiful at sunrise we definitely recommend it for this time! Mostly it goes over very sharp stones and rocks and often you really have to climb.
