High School and pro hero in training, Tenya Ida otherwise known by his tenya ida alias Ingenium an alias he inherited from his older brother who also possessed a similar quirk as he didtenya ida, is a lovable character in the My Hero Academia series. Tenya is known to be one of the most loyal and disciplined characters in the series, taking his role as class representative very seriously.

In My Hero Academia , there aren't too many ways for a person to improve their Quirk, aside from learning how to use it better. For Tenya Ida, though, it turned out there was a family secret as to how their abilities could be improved, but what it required of him was shockingly brutal. Tenya Ida is known for his Quirk, Engine, which manifests as engines in his legs, complete with exhaust pipes, that somehow allow him to run very fast. The Quirk is prominent among his family, being the signature ability of Ingenium, an inherited hero title that was previously held by his brother Tensei. Tenya Ida took on the Ingenium name after Tensei had his run-in with Hero Killer Stain, as while Tensei survived, he was in no condition to do hero work ever again. With this new name came new responsibilities, though, and a desire to live up to the reputation that the Ingenium name held. To accomplish this, Tenya performed his secret family ritual, which involved physically removing his exhaust pipes. In Chapter of the Joint Training arc of My Hero Academia , where Classes 1-A and 1-B were pitted against each other, Ida recollects being told about this secret ritual by his brother. By having the exhaust pipes in his legs removed, he's told that they will grow back stronger, capable of providing him with even more thrust and power. This isn't done surgically, however; instead, Ida is shown ripping them out with his bare hands in the middle of the woods, and it clearly hurts. It's hard to argue with the results, though, as Ida's ultimate move, his Recipro Burst, is now capable of lasting for 10 minutes as opposed to the 10 seconds of serious speed he could previously muster. In fact, Ida is so fast after performing this brutal method of training that he actually can't fully control himself at top speed.

In doing so, Iida has finally recognized his purpose as a hero and completed his personal character arc. No MHA character has reinforced the idea of saving others being a hero's most important quality more than Iida. His motivation for enrolling in UA was to become a hero as respected as Ingenium, his older brother. It was an objectively noble goal, but he began to have subtle doubts ever since he noticed Midoriya Izuku during the UA entrance exam. Ever since then, he declared Deku his rival in order to understand what motivated him to take such a bizarre course of action. He wears a helmet covering his entire face, its sharp bevor full of holes to allow him to speak and breathe easily, and its upper piece rounded over his head with two larger holes on either side, two curved horns just behind and a single spike sticking out of the back of his head. On his feet, he wears silver knee-high boots with gold accessories, which are specialized for his Quirk, and around his torso, he has three thick metal pipes, attached with a blue band, although these only serve as decoration. His armor is very lightweight and does not protect him much; its main purpose is to cut down air resistance rather than to protect him.
