Danny may not come home for Christmas. Margaret is explaining to her bridge club how she showed Danny a mink coat in order to get him to buy her the ring she really wanted for her birthday. Danny has the jitters about his career as a nightclub entertainer; Rusty wants an allowance. Margaret hires a governess for her children even though Danny doesn't like it. But when her mother shows up to spend time with the grandchildren, more problems arise. After seeing the play, Rusty imagines that he can fly like Peter Pan. A trip to visit Margaret's Wisconsin hometown becomes a comical catastrophe.
