Netflix 's longest-running show, Orange is the New Black , has come to an end in season 7, and while some of the main characters get happy endings, others have far more tragic fates. Created by Jenji Kohan, Orange is the New Black debuted on Netflix as one of the streaming service's very first original shows, and since then has garnered a large fanbase and a number of Emmy awards. Orange is the New Black is based on the book of the same name by Piper Kerman, who spent in a women's prison after being convicted for smuggling a suitcase full of drug money. In the show Taylor Schilling plays Piper Chapman, but her story was really just the entry point for dozens of character studies of the women of Litchfield Penitentiary. We've followed the inmates through a chicken obsession, an illicit underwear production line, a prison riot, and into maximum security, and now it's time to say goodbye to the characters we've come to know over the last seven seasons. There have been so many characters in Orange is the New Black that it would take forever to say where they all ended up, but these are the main characters whose stories are wrapped up in season 7 - and how those stories end. After Piper gets out of prison, her marriage to Alex becomes strained by the long distance relationship and they both end up cheating on one another.

The series was created and adapted for television by Jenji Kohan. The season chronicles Piper's life after being released contrasted against the experiences of other prisoners, some of whom now reside in immigration detention centers. Piper struggles to adapt to life after Litchfield. Now living with Cal and Neri, she is unable to pay her rent and probationary fees. She confronts her wealthy father, who is unwilling to support her financially. Alex attempts to get rid of Badison by planting a phone in Badison's dorm. However, Taystee finds the phone instead, which results in a violent confrontation that sends both her and Badison to the SHU. CO Hellman forces Alex to deal heroin until Badison returns. Aleida's kids have moved in at Hopper's residence. Lorna has given birth to a baby boy, Sterling. Daddy's infidelity angers Daya, who accidentally kills Daddy with an overdose of fentanyl as revenge.

The band is broken up. After spending the final season dealing with life outside of prison, Piper finally "gets clean. During Season 6, Piper and Alex got married, but they struggled during the final season. In the end, Piper visits Alex in prison and the two are still together. We love a happy ending!

Keeping that in mind, THR spoke with the sprawling main cast of the groundbreaking series in order to dive into how their respective stories ended. Remaining central to the show all the way through is Piper and her relationship with Alex. In a bid to survive the long distance, both women agreed to an open marriage and explored other sexual relationships — Piper with new friend Zelda Alicia Witt and Alex in a more treacherous liaison with corrections officer Artesian McCullough Emily Tarver — before eventually finding their way back to one another. It was the right thing to do.

And despite the best efforts of her neighbor Gloria Selenis Leyva to stimulate and motivate her, Red is struggling in isolation, where she was sent after trying to strangle Frieda Dale Soules. By Savannah Walsh. Nicky consults with Vince and learns of Sterling's death. After prison, Sophia opened her own hair salon and is doing well. While at the detention center, she reunites with Flaca after being separated in Season 5. After Luschek confesses and gets Gloria's extended sentence reversed, she is released from prison. Flashback : With her rising status in the Russian mob, Red befriends a young man who ends up dead because of her advice. When Daya links up with prison supplier Daddy Vicci Martinez — who Daya accidentally kills to start off the final season — and develops a drug dependence, even her mother Aleida, who is helping to sell the drugs, gives up on her. The last time we see her, Red is cradling her like a baby and singing her a lullaby as Morello sucks her thumb.

But she has a rootedness about her. Despite extra tutoring from Taystee, Pennsatucky leaves the exam believing she has failed, and hits up Daya's gang for some drugs. After being unable to help both Red and Lorna, Nicky basically loses everyone in her life. In the end, however, its Nicky who ends up comforting Red, marking another shifting of roles among the touching trio of Nicky, Red and Lorna.
