As the asteroid strikes Africa, it triggers a global catastrophe and in England, the train is derailed in a tunnel, the gas escapes and the passengers are frozen. The group decide to stick together and make their way to Ark, pursued by packs of feral dogs and a tribe of hunters who are pursuing pregnant teenager Hild Caroline Carver who they take under their collective wing. The characters are tad on the thin side too, often little more than stereotypes, though the likable cast are good and do what they can. If it resembles anything, with its characters waking up in a world that no longer makes any sense to them, it anticipates Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes which Graham would create with Tony Jordan and Ashley Pharoah. The latter takes place in a spectacularly bleak final episode that also features euthanasia and has an ironic twist regarding the fate of the Ark scientists that Ambrose was hoping would save them. But the padding is all too obvious as the characters stumble from one misadventure to the next and at the very least, two episodes worth of material could easily have been excised. As such there was never a second series, though whether it would have been wanted by a largely apathetic audience is up for debate.
