The Magician is a independent Australian film that centers around the life of Ray Shoesmith Scott Ryan , a hitman who works for a Melbourne underworld figure. The film is written, directed and produced by Scott Ryan, who also stars as the lead actor. The movie opens with Ray on a job, taking out a low-level criminal. It becomes clear that Ray is a skilled professional, cold and calculated in his approach to his line of work. The scene sets the tone for the movie to come, which is full of dark humor and violence. Ray is a quiet man, preferring to keep to himself and his small circle of friends. He lives in a small apartment and spends his time between jobs either watching TV or working out at the gym.
