I read this book after my year-old daughter did, and I expected it to be another basic book but was actually blown away by the characters and storyline. I would recommend this to anyone over the age of 10, especially younger girls! There is nothing inappropriate in this novel, however, there are a few scenes that depict drinking and smoking but nothing over-the-top. This title has: Educational value. Great messages. It centers on the romantic dreams of a year-old girl who's spending the summer in the same place, with the same people, she's been with her entire life…. So it's better to face the changes as they come, and to acknowledge and deal with them as best you can. Trying to keep things the same no matter what will keep you from becoming who and what you're supposed to be. Belly is a kind-hearted and loving character who has humble and realistic dreams: a first kiss, a happy summer, good times with her friends. But her insecurities make her easy to relate to, and readers will root for her growing sense of independence. Way too much explicit content added that was not in the book. I really enjoyed this coming from a mature 13 year old. As if it was necessary to make underage kids look cool while doing drugs and heavily drinking alcohol at least half of the time. Mary S. Far too much emphasis on romance and includes long make out scenes, including girl straddling guy and removing her shirt on first date. Every child is different obviously, so I hope you take into account if you have raised a mature child who can watch shows with drugs, alcohol, and sex, while understanding that there are natural consequences if they decide to partake in it in the real world. It's not a whole lot, but I feel that it shouldn't be okay to portray underage drinking or teenagers doing drugs. There are quite a bit of make out scenes and there is one sex scene that is a few seconds long but there is no nudity.
