Talking foxes, Huey Lewis-loving serial killers, world-saving marionettes, foulmouthed political fixers and boisterous bridesmaids — all great as well. German father-daughter duos and goofy stoners? Headbanging teachers and backstabbing bureaucrats? Some of these movies have been gently witty, while others have top comedy films 21st century all of the subtlety of a dose of Sex Panther cologne.
When done right, comedy is often the most rewatchable genre of film. When the jokes land and the bits work out, viewers want to come back for more. Comedy is comforting for many of us. More often than not, we turn to humor for solace. When a movie resonates with your sense of humor and makes you genuinely laugh, that movie becomes something you want to spend more time with. A comedy does not have to be a technical or artistic masterpiece to be enjoyable.

More Working Title collaborations followed, but the first time out was the charm: mash up a witty British romance and a zombie gorefest, and hilarity ensues. Former mime Tati essentially dispenses with dialogue, but while his approach certainly draws on silent comedy, he's less interested in quick-fire slapstick than slowly escalating complications whose intricate choreography often proves more whimsical, or beautiful even, than out-and-out hilarious. Steve Carell is excellent at comedy and can deliver every line of dialogue with a sort of dry humor that makes a simple line funny. In the past, there were cartoons made for children and cartoons aimed at adults, but scant few intended to appeal equally to both demographics. Directors: Bobby Farrelly, Peter Farrelly. Rent Superbad on Prime Video. Most comedies offer a chance to turn your brain off and be entertained for an hour or two. Sure, Raising Arizona is about a couple — a manic Holly Hunter and an oddly subdued Nicolas Cage — who snatch a baby from a millionaire, then flee opportunistic criminals and a battle-scarred biker seemingly forged in hellfire across the same hoodoo-laden Arizona desert Wile E Coyote calls home. A Night at the Opera Eager to parody the superhero flick but keenly aware that superhero flicks can be awesome, the Phil Lord and Chris Miller team found a way to roast the genre while offering a great example. That is, until you notice just how flawlessly written and ferociously performed it is. Was it the rage? He does get the best lines.

But the real star of the show here is the amazing soundtrack composed for the film by Dan Bern and Mike Viola among others that satirizes rock-and-roll from its salad days to the present day. There are more quotable lines here than we can count, and the man-child routine that made Ferrell a star has never worked better. Everything our heroine experiences in her senior year — from a bizarre teen Sondheim production to mother-daughter dress shopping to dumb crushes and disappointing sex — cracks us up in only the way that something like a memory can. The Gold Rush The infectious fun begins with a virtuosic but strangely casual minute long-take that messes with your expectations from start to finish, as an actor on the set of a horror movie confuses a real zombie for a member of the cast. Step Brothers That's what I do. Happy as a hippo. If the current Secretary of Agriculture starting pumping Gatorade in fields throughout the Heartland, would he even lose his job? Superbad is the movie that gave us McLovin', so what's not to love? A streetwise man flees South Central Los Angeles, heading to the suburbs and his lottery-winner uncle and cousin, to avoid a neighborhood thug with a grudge who has just escaped from prison.
