If you are a gamer you might wonder if you can use a trackball to play your favorite game. I personally think trackball gaming just as good, if not better than a regular mouse. Computer gamers have been able to successfully use trackballs in most modern computer games, including FPS, RPG, and RTS genres, with any slight loss of speed compensated for with an increase in precision. When you just start using a trackball, it does take a bit of time to get to the same level you were at before, just because you need to get used to the trackball. Once you are comfortable with the trackball, it would seem obvious that a trackball offers more benefits in gaming than a mouse:. Making the switch to a trackball is definitely something you can do and still successfully game. Not everyone likes trackballs, though, so we strongly suggest to first try a trackball so you can feel the difference yourself and decide if you like it or not.

Although they're often called 'trackball mice,' trackballs aren't technically mice. A conventional mouse has an optical sensor on the bottom that tracks your movements across a surface, while a trackball stays put on your desk, and you use your thumb or fingers to spin a ball while a sensor inside tracks the movement of that ball. Trackballs are a great option if you have limited desk space, and they can be a more ergonomic option because they don't rely on movements from your wrist or arm. When shopping for the best trackball mouse for your needs, finding an option that will be comfortable for your hand size is important. You'll also want to consider what features are important for you. For productivity tasks, you'll want a good scroll wheel for navigating documents or timelines, while for gaming, you'll need to make sure your mouse has lower click latency and a high polling rate. We've tested over mice, and below are our top picks for the best trackball mice. Look, I tried to be normal about PC pointers, I really did. I bought regular mice, the sort whose most exciting feature was their grey scroll wheel, hoping their budget blandness would help me forget the discomfort I was fighting with. I ordered fancy ones with little customisable weights and adjustable parts, trying to convince myself some personalised tweaks would help me see the light. When that didn't work, I paid more than I wanted to for a top tier gaming mouse smothered in buttons, training myself to get the most efficient clicks out of it while MMO-ing my life away. If everything else had already failed then surely, surely, clicking efficiently while my avatar was up to their armpits in dragons and space rabbits had to be the thing that would finally make a difference, because there were no other kinds of mice left to try.
