It's the same Black Bay GMT we know and a lot of you love — 41mm steel case, "Pepsi" bezel, manufacture caliber, just with a new, off-white, "polar" dial.
I've been waiting for the call for a Rolex Pepsi — the modern iteration of the ref. I tried it on and in that moment felt like I was wearing the most valuable watch in the world. It's all I've wanted ever since. It was there, ready for me. Sure, it doesn't have a ceramic bezel — heck, maybe it's better for it — but for someone who has dreamed about a Rolex for so long, I worried that looking at it on my wrist, I'd see the Black Bay GMT as a reminder of something I wanted but didn't "qualify" to have. It was aesthetically so similar to what I wanted, and from its little-brother brand to boot, but I couldn't quite do it. That changed today.

In most instances, we would have stopped the story here, moved on to the specifications, pros and cons, and concluded the article. This white dial GMT-Master from the first generation is known in only a handful of examples, with ongoing debates regarding the originality of these watches. As questionable as its authenticity is, the Albino GMT is a mythical, dare I say iconic watch that many have dreamed of seeing once in the metal. Not really. Now, we have the cool factor. The icing on the cake. The layer of desirability that makes this silvery-white opaline version of the Black Bay GMT better or not, depending on your tastes than its black counterpart. But what about the watch itself? But still, Tudor could have gone the extra mile by changing some of the specifications of this watch. Many of the new models now feature a micro-adjustment device on the clasp, redesigned hands or a newly-shaped crown that sits flush with the case. But I would have loved to see incremental upgrades applied simultaneously on this objectively very cool dial.
There's no question now that at least one core white-dialed GMT release not counting the meteorite dial in the Rolex lineup out of one of Hans Wilsdorf's former companies is real.
In fact, the GMT might seem less appealing when set against the equally recent Black Bay 54 with its properly-vintage proportions. As a result, the case still feels rather large and tall, particularly for a vintage-inspired design. Its size is most apparent when set against the Black Bay 54 that is just 37 mm. Beyond the watch itself, the possible historical reference is intriguing. The meaning behind this historical reference is unknown but something for the aficionado to ponder. Like it predecessor, it is arguably the best value in the GMT sports watch space — but this version is all the more interesting for the backstory.
It's the same Black Bay GMT we know and a lot of you love — 41mm steel case, "Pepsi" bezel, manufacture caliber, just with a new, off-white, "polar" dial. Tudor is calling the new dial "opaline," telling us it isn't quite white, but is finished with a galvanic process that gives it a matte white-grey finish. It gives the dial a silvery hint. The markers have contrasting surrounds that look like a dark grey, that matches the seconds hand. Tudor's familiar manufacture caliber MT sits inside. Like the existing black-dial Black Bay GMT, the new opaline dial version will be offered on a stainless steel bracelet or one of Tudor's jacquard straps. No, it's not a new watch, but I'm excited to see a "polar" dial in a sport watch from Tudor. It feels like a wink to that history. The matte dial finish looks like it's even got a bit of a vintage vibe.
