By Ken Gustafson. UCA is the oldest and largest cheerleading association in the world. Its goal is to inspire leadership on and off the field by providing high-quality educational training for college, high school and middle school cheerleaders. The Southland Varsity Cheerleading Squad competed with 20 other cheer squads, totaling close to girls from all over Georgia. During the first three days at camp, the girls participated in learning new cheers, chants, dances, pyramids and stunts. Final competitions took place on the fourth day. The varsity squad earned a superior trophy for their overall performance at camp. The squad also received the runner-up trophy for the cheer competition. In addition to those two achievements, the Lady Raiders also took home the Leadership Award, which was voted on by all the cheer squads at the camp. This award came in the form of a banana. The varsity squad also earned individual awards throughout the week. Junior Emma Griffin made it to the final round of the Jump-off competition. She finished as the runner-up in that competition.

Our camp curriculum teaches teams how to use spirit-raising tools like signs, poms and megaphones properly, what types of skills are effective in leading the crowd, and how to act before, uca band chant 2023, during and after the game. The camp runs from 8 am to 10 am for cheerleaders Pre-K to 3rd grade and 10 am to 12 pm.

The format for Regionals and Nationals is inspired by what teams do at home and is similar to camp with the addition of Fight Song as a fourth element. Teams are permitted, but not required, to use camp material to demonstrate the game day environment at their school. With all four elements combined, the Game Day performance cannot exceed a 3 minute time limit. All skill restrictions below will be enforced. Teams should demonstrate spirit and enthusiasm while entering the performance floor and before the music begins. A cue will not be given to start the Band Chant. Once the music begins, the teams cannot incorporate any skills other than kicks and jumps, just like summer camp. Squads should utilize spirit raising props and focus on creative movements such as level changes or ripples, execution of the material and encouraging the crowd to participate. Teams should wait until the announcer finishes the cue and show the proper response to the game day situation. Squads should focus on crowd effectiveness, motion technique and skills relevant to a game day environment.

The Game Day Live performance consists of four elements—Band Chant, Situational Sideline, Crowd Leading and Fight Song—combined in a 3-minute performance by the pep band and cheerleaders, just like the current game day format. The entire performance may not exceed 5 minutes with entry and exit of all performers. The cheerleaders and pep band may show spirited interaction as a clear transition. They may also create a cadence that would be relevant to the game day environment to increase the overall crowd effectiveness. For teams that do not have an official Fight Song, it is recommended to use a second selection of band chant music.
