It replaced the old, overcrowded fraternity house next door with a building of tastefully appointed red brick and limestone trim that blends beautifully with the oldest halls on campus. It's got TV viewing rooms, a library and a gift shop that carries all things Gator. There's ample room for meetings, receptions, reunions, for study sessions, even for future musical events. Its first and second floors will be "Home Game Central" again today for the South Carolina game, drawing hundreds of fans just as it has done for every Gator home game this fall. It's an imposing structure, towering three stories above University Avenue, and even more impressive when lit up at night. It's the University of Florida's new 61,square-foot alumni building, which opened just in time for football season, across from the football stadium on University Avenue. The inspiration for Emerson Hall initially came out of necessity. But this new spacious building across the street - the first two floors are primarily event floors, with space for alumni and friends to gather; the third floor is for administrative staff - has given the foundation and alumni association much more than the luxury of space. It is also attracting many more visitors, says John Cannon, director of membership and marketing for the alumni association. The new hall has also generated interested from potential donors, says Chris Brazda, director of public relations for the UF Foundation. Petersburg were major funders for the project, but there are still some donor opportunities to have rooms named.

The University of Florida Alumni Association was organized and chartered in by the first group of graduates from the Gainesville campus. Today, living alumni total over , and reside in every state and in more than countries. The Gator Nation truly is everywhere. These clubs are composed of alumni and friends who represent UF in their communities. They hold a wide variety of programs and events in support of the university. In addition, we host outreach programs that bring faculty and administrators on the road to carry the University's message to alumni and friends. Reunion programs are organized and conducted by the Alumni Association and have been successful in bringing alumni back to Gainesville, with activities that are designed to involve returning graduates with campus life.

Emerson Alumni Hall event space can only be rented to approved University of Florida colleges, departments, and student groups. Reservation requests can be made no more than six months prior to the event date. Reservations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
