In his debut outing for Wattles, former Western Clydesdales Under 21 hooker Thomas Hatch was impressive, and along with fullback Craig Donn, centre Jake Meddleton, back rower Ty Gardner and lock Nick Van Der Poel, all shone in the overall team of achievers in a result that saw the mentor Burns sporting a beaming smile at full time. The Warriors skidded in to quarter time with an 8 — 0 lead after tries by winger giant Aiden Suhan and back rower Gardner. The Danes snared a valuable four-pointer as the second quarter opened, before front-row bookend Mitch Duff burst through to touch down from close to the tryline, 15 minutes before the half time break.

Sunday saw five years of hard work come to fruition, in a sensational performance that also signalled the end of the TRL careers of stalwart forwards Dale Perkins and Ryan Duggan. The Hawks were first on the Tom Allen Memorial Scoreboard snatching an early 6 — 0 lead after ten minutes when winger Jayden Williams showed his speed in a runaway try. The Stillwater Pastoral Company Warriors answered the call with four-pointers by hooker Kai Duggan and fullback Jackson Green to have a 12 — 6 advantage ten minutes prior to half time. The Hawks spread their wings in the final five minutes before half time, slick centre Christian Prince touching down closely followed by an intercept try by team skipper Haydan Lipp to take a 16 — 12 lead into the sheds at the break. The mood of the game changed from the first minute of the second stanza when eventual Player of the Match and John McDonald Medallist Matt Duggan combined with Jackson Green for what was a match altering try. The Hawks tired in the later stages and suffered a lack of ball, compounding their issues trying to come to grips with an up-tempo Wattles outfit who were making every post a winner. With just seconds remaining on the ground clock and Wattles leading 51 - 16, veteran forward Allan Morris added a little more respectability to the Hawks total with a hard earned try. Halfback Matt Duggan was Wattles standout performer, along with Jackson Green, while Travis Burns provided sterling support and direction in a team of achievers. Winger Mattew Christensen was another to shine throughout and earned a try double for his efforts. Wattles forward pack never took a backward step against a Gatton side with a size advantage.

The lovely ladies had the best seats in the house to watch the games while cheering on the Wattles Warriors teams. Their marquee tent on the sidelines was beautifully decorated with wattle flowers and the tables were set with menus and complimentary wine coolers laid out for their luncheon. On arrival, the ladies enjoyed a delicious cheese and antipasto grazing table. The grazing board had a selection of cheeses, cured meats, crackers and crispbreads, and a variety of dried fruits, olives, and sun-dried tomatoes. Next, we served them fresh, nourishing sandwiches and wraps, followed by an array of hot finger foods. The grand finale to the beautiful afternoon was the stunning and indulgent sweet dessert grazing board. Adam was met with plenty of 'ooh's and cheers when he brought out the dessert board.

Wattles warriors

Since the start of the season Wattles have battled injury, player retirements, player availability issues and of course new combinations. The scoreline does not really indicate how tough the win was. Captain Ty Gardner led by example as they completed a Warriors hat trick. All three grades recording resounding wins.

Travis Burns has spent the past five seasons giving back to grassroots footy. Born in Texas — a rural town in the Goondiwindi region — Burns played for the local club growing up before making the move to Wattles in under 15s.
