The new facility will be a critical hub for animal rescue in the West Kootenay region and will be a special place to strengthen the bond between animals and humans. The 4,square-foot facility will be located at Heritage Way west of the airport. It will incorporate modern designs to ensure the highest levels of health and welfare for dogs, cats and small animals, as well as designated areas for temperament and behaviour assessments and specialized isolation areas for sick and injured animals. The centre will also have a multi-purpose space that can be used for dog training, SPCA youth camps, workshops and other events for the community. The current, aging facility, located in Trail, served abused, neglected, abandoned and injured animals last year and we are excited to grow to better serve the West Kootenays.
