Sony finally announced its much-rumoured console revisions last night in the form of new Disc and Digital PS5 models launching this November , which made us think, what about a similar option for Xbox users? Microsoft has its very own digital console with Xbox Series S, but as of yet, you cannot add any sort of disc drive to the console - a feature that Sony is bringing to the table in Yep, if you haven't seen, these new PS5 models allow for a detachable disc drive - meaning digital edition users can upgrade their console to incorporate physical media usage. It's a neat feature for those who want to jump in at a lower cost and then eventually upgrade to a full-bells-and-whistles system after the fact, and it's something that'd be very welcome for Xbox. Sure, Xbox Series X and S are two entirely different consoles with different internal components and capabilities, but we still think there's room for allowing Series S users to attach a disc drive.

Only the original Xbox One had a disc drive integrated. Like, really? Honestly a partly blame MS, their console naming has always baffled me. I checked and you are right, apparently it does.

I have a Series X but would love to have an add-on disc drive for my S in another room. We will lose access to certain games in a digital only world. Are you experiencing a problem with a specific game? This feature is enabled by default and works in the background whenever you launch games. As such, you have access to several advanced video features. Having had the S for a couple of years now, the idea of being able to purchase cheaper games earlier does appeal at times. Sorry this didn't help. I don't even use my drive on my X and doubt my wife even misses the drive on her S; she certainly hasn't said anything about it. Some gaming headsets that utilize an optical cable may require a firmware update to support game and chat audio over USB on Xbox Series X S. I suggested some sort of trade in system of discs for codes to Phil on Twitter ages ago but he never got back to me. One of the more blatant reasons Microsoft would be disinterested in providing a disc drive for the Series S is because it may detract from the overall sales of Xbox Series X consoles.

Are you experiencing a problem with a specific game? There are a few exceptions; some of the Nintendo first parties not all though and some of Sony's again not all in particular have a high quality bar day 1, don't have many bugs or bring major features after launch. I checked and you are right, apparently it does. Note Your device will auto-detect and apply many of these features during the initial setup experience. Because the new controller is slightly smaller than older controllers, some third-party phone clips, batteries, and battery covers may not work. I think it would be a cool upgrade and as a person who loves to buy physical games on sale, it would be very handy. The next generation of Xbox consoles are here.
