Part of this story. Pack riding was evident throughout both men's and women's races. The XCC races were very tactical as a result. McConnell and Neff battle it out in the women's sprint. The sprint effort left Schwarzbauer completely spent. Pidcock never went into the red and rode tempo. Post-race reflection for Pidcock with his team helper. We'll see Pidcock later on in the season at the World Championships. No one could match McConnell who had a second gap most of the race. Lecomte and Rissveds were on the chase, finishing in second and third. Jolanda Neff had a solid race and finished fourth.

Nino Schurter Scott-SRAM , despite finishing just off the podium in sixth, holds onto the overall leader's jersey with one race to go. Mont-Sainte-Anne has been part of the World Cup circuit since it began in , as well as hosting three world championships. It is considered a monument of the sport, one of the only remaining classic natural courses, with roots, rocks, steep climbs and technical descents. While the men missed the torrential rain that swept through for 30 minutes in the middle of the women's race, much of the course remained wet, making descents especially treacherous. World champion Schurter would normally be counted among the prohibitive favourites, however, a poor XCC race on Friday put him back on the fourth row of the starting grid.

For the last decade, followers of cross-country mountain biking have become familiar with one Helvetic rider's domination. Schurter is closer to the end of his career than the middle, and the World Cup revealed who the challengers will be to take over his mantle. Much was expected from Henrique Avancini at his home event, on a track he knows better than any. But the Brazilian rider could only manage a 13th. But this was not to be the case.
