Is there a preferred way to emulsify the oil evenly in the petrol?

Hi everyone, I've just acquired what I'm told is a Yamaha 8hp 2 stroke. The clamp bracket has been replaced so I don't have the serial number. Although it has a 8hp hood, I'm wondering if it may be a 6hp and anyway I'll need a serial number when I come to ordering parts. Does anyone know any way to tell the difference between the 6 and the 8 without the number and if the number is stamped anywhere else on the engine? It seems a little odd if the only ID is a sticker which could be replaced by an unscrupulous person. Trying to add a picture of what may be the engine number but can't do it!

Over the years, manufacturers have changed where this information is located on an outboard. I'll try to be as complete as possible below, while keeping this reasonably simple. On older Mercury outboards, going back into the 50's and possibly even earlier, the serial number would generally be viewed at the leading edge of the swivel bracket, as seen in the image below. If for any reason that number may have been changed, removed, or can no longer be read, every Mercury had a freeze plug, which is on the powerhead and about the size of a quarter. That freeze plug will have a serial number on it.

Goodday, thanks for allowing me to post. This is an 8 hp four-stroke manual start carbureted , being sold by a local dealer on consignment. Or are they very hard to locate? That engine number comes up as a engine. Total: members: 63, guests: The one is a Yamaha 15hp and Yamaha A I'm told a 2hp motor. Last edited: 27 Aug Which is unbelievable. Thanks all, especially Vic, those are exactly the kind of things I needed to know. No BHP rating is on the motor. Could you tell me any info such as date of manufacture, from this number? What are those numbers?

I did find a QR code on the side of the block and a long number comes up but cannot reference it to anything. Waterline length and Solent Chop. Number is First Prev 2 of 3 Go to page. No BHP rating is on the motor. I called the state police and local sheriff's department and they claim there is no way to lookup to see if it was stolen without an active investigation. Not one of Yamaha's better ideas. The clamp bracket has been replaced so I don't have the serial number.
