Marienne went to Paris to start a new life with her daughter Juliette Dallas Skye , using her artistic skills to pay their bills. After promising to leave her daughter just for a few days, Marienne goes to an art fair in London, where she crosses paths with Joe. Instead, he spends all his free time obsessing over Rhys Montrose, the writer of an autobiography who shows even people who did a lot of damage can still get a second chance and turn things for the better. While remaining tied to a chair, Marienne watches as Joe plans to take her elsewhere. When the time comes for Joe to lock her in a glass cage, Marienne manages to distract Joe long enough to get rid of the sedatives he puts in her water every evening. So, while Joe carries what he thinks is a dozed-off Marienne, the woman pushes him, grabs a hammer, and fights to escape. Meanwhile, Rhys takes over to do the dirty work Joe refuses to do, satisfying his most sadistic needs. While locked inside a glass cage, Marienne uses the memory of Juliette to keep herself from going crazy.

And this time, instead of a romantic interest, he decided to go after Rhys, a man he had never met but who represents the redemption ideals Joe pursues.

It's possible that fans will be divided on this reveal and it will change how they feel about the season in general. However, You still manages to shock four seasons in, which is definitely no small feat given the show's reputation for plot twists and dark storytelling. What episode does so well is give viewers the kind of twist they have been waiting for while still telling a moving story and offering up the character development that You is celebrated for. This feels like it's both obvious and also a shock, which is what makes it so smart. The best thriller series like You have big twists but they have to make sense. It does seem logical that Joe has been the one behind the murders, given his gruesome and disturbing history.

Warning: contains spoilers. At the end of a thrilling whodunit season, Joe slowly falls for his latest infatuation, Kate Galvin Charlotte Ritchie , all while trying to become a better person. By the end of it all, Marienne escapes after faking her death with the help of Nadia Amy-Leigh Hickman , and Kate falls for Joe after forgiving him for murdering her father. You is routinely reinventing itself, including setting Season 4 in London with a new whodunit aspect. How do you feel about changing the show constantly, while keeping at its core the story of Joe losing his sanity? The trajectory of a man becoming more and more unhinged is the common denominator, but it's certainly a challenge. It's kind of the opposite of the sort of TV that can just go on forever, but I enjoy the reinvention a lot. It's really fun to have a new story to research at the beginning of every season. We all go and watch a bunch of whodunits or whatever the thriller of the season is.
