I have just purchased a new YZf, and was looking for a recommendation on oil. I will be mainly riding tracks here in SoCal, so advice on frequency would be helpful as well I figure every 2 rides. This thing is incredible! I had a back in the day I think? I'll be the first responder to the scene on this one, first of my Thumpertalk career. See what the minimum API spec is from your manual, buy an oil that meets that spec, good to go. That is my view on the matter.

The manual also recommends this. I'm a tech at a yamaha dealer in massachusetts. Not a good idea to use motor oil designed for automobile use they have friction modifiers this can ruin clutches very fast. I like Motul ,silkoline,yamalube,spectro,ect,just make sure they are motorcycle oils for wet clutch systems all these should work fine. Yamaha doesn't recomend using synthetic oils. Happy riding! I like spectro too. I use mobil 1 15w 50, and my clutch acts up. When I was using the spectro there seemed to be less of a problem, so soon as I m done with this batch of mobil 1.

Just make sure its not energy conserving oil. I run the same. It is an excellent oil. Since changing over from 4-stroke oil in my tranny to the above-mentioned gear oils, I have only missed one shift that I can remember out of numerous days of riding. Seriously, it has made that much of a difference for me. I'm using Mobile 1 10W30 synthetic. So far, I've poured four different oils in that tranny and it's all the same to me.
