When they were older, they became soldiers of the First Army , with Alina becoming a cartographer. Alina arrives at the First Army's camp, where she experiences prejudice against her Shu Han heritage. After Mal is selected to accompany the Second Army on an expedition across the Fold to Novokribirsk , Alina destroys the First Army's records of the western coastline and Os Kervo , resulting in her entire unit being stationed on the very same skiff to redraw the destroyed maps.
