The social satirical comedy takes on the generational oppression, patriarchy and superstition beliefs, while making strong statements on women empowerment. It simply amazes you with brilliant storytelling, nuanced detailing, powerful dialogues and solid performances. It is very much self aware and does away the regular stereotypes. While rightly executed, lighthearted satirical pokes always land more impact than even some hard hitting on your face approach, engaging people with good laughs, at the same time delivering thought provoking insights in a far more accessible manner. It does have a few limitations, but on the whole ends up highly satisfying. Must watch.

Ayali is a Indian Tamil-language streaming television series written and directed by Muthukumar for ZEE5 which focuses on the patriarchal aspects of Tamil society and Indian society in general. The eight episodic series premiered on ZEE5 on 26 January The story revolves around the life of a young teenage girl Tamizhselvi who defies the horrible year-old customs and traditions that oppress the women of Veerappannai village in Pudukkottai towards her dream of becoming a doctor. The series is produced by Kushmavathi under the production house of Estrella Stories, with music composed by Revaa and screenplay and dialogues by Veenai Maindhan, Sachin, and Muthu Kumar. Muthukumar marked his web series debut with this series.
