As the weather turned out, I should have been trying the Merrell Captiva Launch boot since it was flat soled and waterproof. Most of my time in Ireland was spent walking on water soaked, muddy ground in the rain or clambering up steep stone steps. The only time they were uncomfortable, funnily enough, was on the plane. I guess the change in cabin pressure made them feel tight? The modest heel keeps them dressy enough for evenings but manageable for hikes to waterfalls. The padded insoles make them comfortable enough for multiple days of walking. The elasticized back is handy if you build up calf muscles from all the walking. The only downside is that knee boots are always bulky to pack in carry-on. I'm just wondering if bear traps can be re-used and also if someone has to make that DC20 strength check to re-open them between uses, if that is the case. They're just so cheap that it seems like they should only be used once. But in reality, I'm wondering if bear traps get damaged after each use. The trap is in a fixed place, which means that an enemy who notices it can simply walk around it. Even if it is in a choke point so walking around it is not viable , it is still only a DC 5 acrobatics check to jump over the entire square. And the trap is probably more on the foot scale, so it is easy to argue that it should only take a DC 1 or 2 check.
