Bowburn Primary School moved into to a brand new school building at Easter The school was officially opened in May The day finally arrived for our official school opening! Various guests came along , including representatives from those involved in the design and build- Esh Construction, Ryder Architects, Faithful and Gould and Durham County Council. The school was officially opened by Cllr. Children from Y2 and Y3 performed dances and songs for our official guests, which was very exciting! Esh Construction have been awarded the contract to build the new school.

Bowburn is a village in County Durham , England. It is situated about 3 miles 4. It is part of the Cassop-cum-Quarrington parish. Originally a small farming hamlet, named after the shape of the small burn that runs through it, Bowburn's history, like that of many other villages in the region, is linked closely to coal mining. Several coal mines were sunk in the area during the 19th century but extensive development did not begin until an entirely new Bowburn Colliery began to be sunk in Bowburn therefore celebrated its th anniversary on 23 July The second Bowburn Colliery was sunk a few years later, south of there near Park Hill , being one of several sunk in the Quarrington and Coxhoe areas. It was close to the terminus of the Durham Branch of the Clarence Railway. It probably closed in about The third and most famous Bowburn Colliery was sunk in by Bell Bros.

With the arrival of lockdown we were worried work would stop again oh no! The upper storey has a roof, the lift and stairs have been added. The first of the steel structure went up at the start of May, which means we can begin to see the outline of the school more clearly.
