This article is about the real person Paul, for the many fictional characters he plays, see Characters. Today he still resides there along with his wife and son. Paul has always had a creative mind, and spent a large amount of his 20's, 30's, and 40's trying to express this creativity beyond being the husband and father he aleady was. Paul started his YouTube channel in , the name "Ephemeral Rift" was simply two random words put together without any specific meaning, this was prior to his ASMR content. This channel was composed of simple videos of nature, trees, clouds, and him playing the Native American Flute.

His early works consist of typical ASMR ambience, like running water, to cryptic performances consisting of ER painting himself to take on a new character. His channel reached its first turning point in late when Paul seemingly gained interest in the works of H. He began creating ASMR videos based around the stories, although usually branching off with his own character. By , ER had almost completely departed from his more cryptic content, and focused primarily on his experimental, lore driven ASMR videos, along with occasional inspirational speeches. However, it was clear that ASMR was becoming the staple of the channel, and soon the speeches lessened as well, which is how his content has mostly stayed up to the present.

Ephemeral Rift is a YouTube channel and the nickname of its host sometimes shortened to E. Having stated on several occasions that he is a fan of, and largely inspired by, horror writer H. Lovecraft , Paul's videos are often surreal, confusing, and sometimes even downright creepy. Manley, and many more, Paul has created a deep and confusing narrative of multiple universes and dimensions, often leading to self-contradictions in the timeline.
