Two YF prototypes were built. The YF was stealthier and faster, but less agile than its competitor. After a four-year development and evaluation process, the YF was announced the winner in and the design was developed into the Lockheed Martin F Raptor , which first flew in and entered service in The U. Navy considered using the production version of the ATF as the basis for a replacement to the F , but these plans were later canceled.
