Sonning is a delightful village that straddles Berkshire and Oxfordshire. In George Clooney and his wife Amal Alamuddin moved into a gorgeous mansion there.

Hollywood's favourite power couple George and Amal Clooney spent years — and many millions — building themselves a 'nice little world' on one of the most idyllic stretches of the River Thames. After an extensive month refurbishment costing several million pounds, the nine-bedroom, ivy-covered manor house, which is protected from prying eyes by a row of willow trees, today boasts a large swimming pool and pool house, a grand terrace, a boat house, an astroturf tennis court and a seater cinema. But despite the expense they lavished on the property, locals in the village say that the Clooneys have upped sticks and headed for sunnier climes. Sources told The Mail on Sunday that George, 62, and his wife Amal, 45, who were once regular patrons at Sonning's local pubs and restaurants, have not been living at the abode for at least two years.

It comes as a cold snap moves in from Arctic and The Met Office says overnight sleet will leave slippery surfaces which could cause 'injuries from slips and falls'. The tennis court, veranda and most of the previously luscious lawn have been submerged by filthy flood water from the nearby river. With the freezing cold weather coming the water could transform into ice causing further damage to the luxurious lawn. Flooding has hit a number of areas around the Clooneys' home as seen in aerial photographs of the surrounding countryside. Many rivers and canals across the UK have burst their banks after huge amounts of rain over the past few days of January. This latest floodwater has arrived amid extraordinary weather conditions causing chaos across the UK.
The tiny village also offers up two different eateries. Royal Berkshire Hospital. The affluent county is right on the doorstep of London with just a minute train ride to the city.

There was much anticipation among the residents of Sonning when George and Amal Clooney finally moved into their 17th century mansion earlier this year after an intensive, month long refurbishment. The wives of this enchanting village were especially hopeful for an invitation from the new chateleine to a housewarming at Aberlash House — or even just a cup of tea. But it soon became clear that only a select number of villagers from Sonning — which lies on the Thames just two miles outside Reading, Berkshire but feels like a fairyland at the end of the world — were to be welcomed into the Clooneys' orbit.

George and Amal Clooney may be known as two of the most highly praised people in their respective fields, but they are also infamous party animals. So needless to say, their home is perfectly designed for entertaining a myriad of guests, filled with several "party spots," according to Vogue. In the cover story for the magazine's May issue, the year-old barrister and mother of twins gives a grand tour of the sweeping property situated on the English island of Sonning Eye on the Thames. The Clooneys' home's entry hall features "towering ceilings" and "crisp Georgian molding" as well as a "softly faded Persian rug" down a stone corridor. The sitting room houses several more family photos, including George and Amal's parents, as well as moments with the likes of President Barack Obama and the Pope. Their mantel is reportedly decorated with wedding photos.
