It is the largest union in the Canadian federal public sector. PSAC members work in every province and territory, and also work abroad in embassies and consulates. Many of PSAC's some , members work for the federal public service, crown corporations , or agencies as immigration officers, fisheries officers, food inspectors, customs officers, national defence civilian employees, and the like. However, an increasing number of PSAC members work in non-federal sectors: in women's shelters, universities, security agencies and casinos. By , the union was negotiating separate collective agreements under federal, provincial and territorial jurisdictions. The AEC is responsible for the day-to-day decisions of the union with respect to finances, overseeing campaigns, mobilizing the membership, advocating on behalf of the membership and advancing the union and its members' rights in the workplace.

Public Service Alliance of Canada PSAC leadership says all workers in a legal strike position will strike Wednesday if they don't reach an agreement by 9 p. ET Tuesday. Its bargaining groups — one of about 35, Canada Revenue Agency CRA workers, the other of about , staff spread across more than 20 departments and agencies — each moved into legal strike positions last week after strike votes. With essential workers factored out, PSAC said more than , workers could walk off the job across Canada , affecting a range of services.
