The final additions to this year's Royal International Air Tattoo line-up have been announced. The annual three-day event at RAF Fairford, just under an hour from Oxfordwill start on Friday, July 14, riat 2023 lineup, and thousands will flock to the airbase to see over aircraft take part in either the flying or static displays.
Following an exceptionally hot and dry , this year saw far more unsettled conditions with the organisers and participants battling wind and rain throughout the weekend. However, they prevailed on all three days to present a superb showcase of military aviation to huge crowds. After the three-year hiatus due to the covid pandemic, had been a triumphant return for the Royal International Air Tattoo with almost everything seeming to go the way of the RIAT organisers — big crowds, some superb participation from across the world and truly exceptional sunny weather. One road which forms the Purple Route and the Blue Exit route was specifically recommissioned for the show with three temporary bridges over the subsiding areas — it looked an expensive installation but helped enormously aid the flow away from Fairford at the end of the day! But the major headache was the weather. After a very hot dry June, July was much fresher and unsettled. Over the Air Tattoo weekend, the forecast worsened for the Friday and Saturday.

Equally, over the past few months tonnes of jet fighters, bombers, and support aircraft have been announced each week, meaning some RIAT attendees are likely to have forgotten about the SAAB Gripen, or even the historic German Messerschmitt , that will be at this year's airshow. Riat 2023 lineup
The Royal International Air Tattoo is a curious beast. Moreover, many have passionate — and conflicting — opinions about which category each edition of the show falls into. The build-up to the event each year is an emotional rollercoaster, with erratic highs and lows that far surpass what most announcements individually justify, as the soap opera of Thursday lunchtime updates gradually reveals the line up. In the interest of full disclosure, this is not quite a typical airshow review; this year, I attended the Air Tattoo across all six days as a member of the PlanesTV team, working as a camera operator for their live broadcast and co-hosting the streams of arrivals and departures. My experience did not, therefore, come close to representing that of a ticket holder. Nonetheless, herein lie my highlights of the week. I will also be taking into account the experiences of my TIF colleagues, who attended the show using general admission tickets from Thursday to Saturday — although that shall follow later.

As well as some awesome aircraft, there were some impressive visitors, too. The organisers of the Royal International Air Tattoo had promised that, as well as featuring the world's most exciting aircraft, the airshow would turn its spotlight into space. Except that it didn't work that way. This may include adverts from us and third parties based on our knowledge of you. The pair were regrettable cancellations for operational reasons. There will be moans about delays getting into and out of the show car parks and there will be those who were upset to have missed one or both of the unannounced special flypasts. Teams sometimes have meet and greet events in shelters, but the South Koreans were just there, out and about, strolling around with other show-goers, visiting the attractions, much to the delight of visitors who happened to see them. So, what about the Red Arrows? This theme marked the th anniversary of the first successful air-to-air refuelling between two aircraft in and provided an excellent opportunity for international air forces to display their specialist tanker aircraft.
