This guided tour showcases the Melbourne skyline and an exhibition detailing the building's distinctive history. We are currently restoring the intricate paint and plasterwork under the Dome.

With its origins steeped in history, the Royal Exhibition Building was built for the Melbourne International Exhibition. As a key attraction of the and international exhibitions, the Dome Promenade provided visitors a unique opportunity to overlook the gardens and view the Melbourne skyline. Tour participants will meet their tour guide at the meeting point in the Melbourne Museum foyer before travelling across to the Royal Exhibition Building. Three levels of the exhibition basement, mezzanine and lower promenade are wheelchair accessible via a lift. The fourth level, the upper dome promenade, is not wheelchair accessible and requires participants to climb around 20 steps. From there, there are additional stairs required to travel around the entire upper promenade to see a degree view.

The Royal Exhibition Building is a World Heritage -listed building in Melbourne , Victoria, Australia , built in — as part of the international exhibition movement, which presented over 50 exhibitions between and around the globe. The building sits on approximately 26 hectares 64 acres , is metres ft long and is surrounded by four city streets. It was built to host the Melbourne International Exhibition in —81, and then hosted the even larger Centennial International Exhibition in , and the formal opening of the first Parliament of Australia in The building is representative of the money and pride Victoria had in the s. It received restoration throughout the s and in became the first building in Australia to be awarded UNESCO World Heritage status, being one of the last remaining major 19th-century exhibition buildings in the world. It is the world's most complete surviving site from the International Exhibition movement — It sits adjacent to the Melbourne Museum and is the largest item in Museum Victoria's collection. Today, the building hosts various exhibitions and other events and is closely tied with events at the Melbourne Museum.
