This quest begins after speaking with Galmar at the Falkreath Stormcloaks Camp. Head over to Falkreath Stormclock camp marked out on your map just southeast of Orphan rock and Riverwood and speak to Galmar Stonefist to start the quest. Head over to the quest marker southwest of Ford Neugard to meet Ralof You can fast travel to Greywater Grotto or Helgen for a shorter walk. He will then request for you to sneak into the fort and free the prisoners. Head round to the back of the fort and take out any patrolling guards along the way if you like. Dive into the lake and look for a cave behind a sunken boat.

Greywater Grotto is a small cave far east of Falkreath , located south-southwest of Helgen , containing leveled predatory animals. The cave itself is a long descending corridor with no offshoots that follows a stream down to a shallow pool. There is a leveled animal guarding the entrance, which is covered in splattered blood and gore, with a small coin purse lying on the ground among it. There are also a number of snowberry bushes in the vicinity and an iron ore vein above the entrance, accessed by heading west then ascending back to the east. The animals in the cave are leveled, and seem to be entirely random. You are as likely to encounter wolves as you are to encounter snowy sabre cats , snow bears , or ice wraiths , depending on your level. The cave itself is entirely natural in appearance, and descends in a series of plateaus with earthen ramps linking them. Upon entering, there is a dead deer in front on a ledge, with a ramp down to the left and an iron ore vein beneath it. Partway down, there is a wellspring that has formed a partially frozen pool that feeds a stream flowing to the south, with a corundum ore vein to the north. To the right, the ground rises, with a couple more animals found at the point before the cave continues to descend, passing a dead bandit near the west wall. A short way farther south, the stream forms a waterfall, with the path becoming a ledge along the west wall. Near the bottom, the path crosses below the waterfall as a bridge over another partially frozen pool. Three more animals are found at the bottom next to an unlocked wooden chest , with a second dead bandit and a medium coin purse on the ground among more human debris.

Falkreath Hold is a hold in southern Skyrim , with its capital in Falkreath. It is initially affiliated with the Imperial Legion , but can be captured by the Stormcloaks after completing Rescue from Fort Neugrad. It can also change sides as part of negotiations during Season Unending. It is the second southernmost hold in Skyrim, after the Rift. It borders Cyrodiil in the south, across the Jerall Mountains , and Hammerfell in the west. Other than its capital, Falkreath, the only notable town in the hold is Helgen , the first settlement in Skyrim to be attacked by a dragon. Falkreath Hold is blanketed by characteristic pine forests and described by its citizens as being covered in a fine mist that makes it seem seasonless. The mountains rising above Falkreath are well above the snow line striking a stark comparison to the green of the rest of the hold. The most distinguishing geographic feature is Lake Ilinalta which covers a large portion of the central region and acts as the source for the White River. The town has the largest cemetery in Skyrim that houses generations of the dead, due to a large number of battles that have taken place over the years.
