Vault dwellers are the inhabitants of your Vault. They are the workforce, defenders and explorers for the vault. As such, they're paramount for the vault survival, and who you as an overseer must pay attention to if your Vault is to thrive. Each Vault Dweller has its own SPECIAL stats and characteristics, these govern the different aspects of life in the vault, and making the best use of your dwellers abilities is key to their ongoing happiness and your vault efficiency. The better the Dweller's stat is for that room, the more they influence the room's effects. Once you've added enough dwellers to your vault, you can build training rooms that will increase particular Special stats.

Characters within the game range from enemies to your own citizens. Vault citizens are known as dwellers and players have taken to calling enemies invaders. Rare and legendary dwellers are found in lunchboxes. Legendary dwellers arrive wearing a legendary outfit and a rare weapon. Rare and legendary dwellers keep their outfit when entering the vault, rather than immediately switching to a vault suit. There are 23 legendary dwellers to collect. Legendary dwellers are named after characters from Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and Fallout Rare and legendary dwellers are not unique. A vault can have multiple rare and legendary dwellers of the same name. All rare and legendary dweller cards are equally likely to be found in a lunchbox, regardless of whether any rare and legendary dwellers are already in the vault. Some legendary dwellers, such as Sarah Lyons, Three Dog and Preston Garvey, can be obtained by completing their respective quests from the overseer's office.

You can gain additional Dwellers for your Vault by welcoming new ones that come from the Wasteland, pairing up Dwellers together to have a child, or by completing Objectives and obtaining their rewards. A few key things to remember when customizing and using Dwellers in your Vault. Pregnant females will always run from all disasters and hide. When a crisis happens, be sure to have another Dweller near the pregnant Dweller to help address the situation. If you are not careful in doing so, a small disaster can become a very big one within your Vault. The Morale of your Dwellers increases as they are placed in the best rooms suited for their skills.

In Fallout Shelter, Dwellers are your worker ants. You, the Queen, must protect the colony and secure its future by ensuring they scurry away at their jobs as efficiently as possible. Even laying dubious ant metaphors aside however, there is a more strange - and ethically dubious - side to maximising the efficient running of your Vault, and that's the practice of eugenics.

I'm going to just throw this out, because I'm a sucker. That's around 1 dweller out of every 30 boxes for a round figure. Stimpacks and radaways NOT replenished!
