The town of Argyle on Friday issued a statement regarding recent phone surveys residents have received with focused questions about Walmart. Walmart is believed to be interested in building a new store on the Heath Tract, a large property on the northeast corner of FM and IW — the Heath Tract developer said in a public meeting that it wants to build big box stores, homes, restaurants and more. In its statement, the town confirmed that staff members have had preliminary discussions about a potential Walmart store in town. The town has not participated in or sanctioned the phone survey. At a Program for Argyle Community Engagement PACE public input meeting Wednesday night at Argyle Town Hall, representatives discussed with residents their plans for many new restaurants, stores, offices and homes for a future development in Argyle. The commercial development, to comply with town ordinances, would require about 3, parking spaces. They said most of the traffic would come from the north, west and south, and that most of those people would not travel through any other parts of Argyle. There is no timeline for the development. Nothing has been formally submitted to the town, but McAdams representatives said timing is important because the area is growing fast and businesses are eager to set up shop along this once-rural IW corridor.
