This is her second of four installments.
Davis Plett. When she first began experimenting with posting images on Instagram, Khan says the act of posting and the experience of having a body began to blur. On Sept. Given that most people know her work from the internet, Khan is experimenting with what happens when bodies that have previously existed only as usernames gather in a room. As participants perform simple guided tasks, they will engage in a discussion about what it means to be young feminists of Colour. For Khan, who is about to enter her second year of art school, the community-focused nature of the workshop is a response to her experience trying to navigate official arts institutions. For marginalized communities, be they online, in person or in the murky territory in between, Khan believes gathering to exchange ideas is a way to create change.

Learn more about us here , and find out how to submit your work here! Do you find it a stimulating environment for you creatively? My time there was somewhat chaotic, even though I miss it. I struggled a lot with my identity when I lived away from home, and I still do. I guess Brooklyn can be seen as this place where a bunch of creatives live with overpriced coffee shops, and I just never felt secure in such an environment. Not saying [my problem] was specifically those two things! Everything felt so fast-paced there and honestly, I work very slowly. I got my associates degree in December and decided not to continue school right now. This whole process feels so painful and sensitive, but I think this will be one of the most important moments in my life. A moment of pure growth. The conjuncture of these is powerful and unique.
Examining every aspect of my natal chart has been cathartic, an invaluable ritual of self-knowledge, self-appreciation, self-love, which are essential to know, appreciate, and love others, ayqa khan instagram. I also love how on your Instagram you often post pictures of your mom when she was younger, back when she was living in Pakistan.

As a first-generation Pakistani-American, year-old artist Ayqa Khan straddles two very different worlds. New York based photographer and digital illustrator Ayqa Khan. Photo courtesy: Ayqa Khan. In her latest series of illustrations, Ayqa explores the first-generation immigrant experience, combining her love for traditional henna and textile patterns with a wholly unconventional approach to Asian feminine beauty. That affects your mental health. Her art features women dressed in sneakers, niqabs, bangles, swimsuits and birthday suits, all covered in thick black body hair. I had my parents and my siblings telling me that my body hair is disgusting and unfeminine, and that I looked dirty.

Growing up in a predominately white community, Ayqa Khan felt the classic teen pressure to fit in. Khan, on the other hand, was "somebody who had to prepare two hours to wake up early to make sure I had no hair on my face," she explains. It was like survival tactics. To be like the other girls, Khan started to shave everything including her arms, legs, stomach, and back. Khan kept up shaving and waxing until college. She began to stop caring so much about removing her body hair and learned to let go of social constructs and societal standards about it.

When I want to explore realities and fantasies I draw or write. I have lots of sketchbooks but they turned into journals for ideas, pretty much, and now I just go straight to Illustrator to work on a new drawing. My work is centred on accessibility and the 21st century reality that we can no longer consider low and high culture to be mutually exclusive, when anyone with an internet connection can be exposed to histories and narratives of all kinds of creation.
