The new additions are certainly improvements, but the total package here isn't more compelling than the best Bose, Sony and others have to offer. They look nice, are well madeh8i, and allow me to enjoy noise cancelling rather h8i damaging my ears in attempt to drown out the The noise-cancellation isn't quite on par with the best Sony and Bose have to offer, but it's still very good. In terms of design, the ear cushions have been made a touch slimmer and some of the exterior aesthetics have been updated. A comprehensive set of upgrades to two of the prettiest headphones out there. So if the noise you want to cancel most is other people, this upgrade will be particularly important to you. A new Transparency Mode can be accessed with a gesture, turning off the music and NC to let you hear the world around you. A proximity sensor has been added to allow the H9i to automatically pause music when you take the headphones off. The on-ear H8i differ in being smaller on the outside but having a bigger battery on the inside.

Rightly so. The Danish audio-visual company has worked these elements into its design philosophy for some time now, with said philosophy proving a recipe for success. Unlike the previous generation of products, the H8i lacks the aptX codec from Qualcomm in what is most likely a cost-saving effort on the part of the manufacturer. However, the manufacturer is also keen to stress that there is no real difference between that codec and the AAC codec anyway. This model has an RRP of Euros, with the manufacturer laying down that asking price with confidence.

To be honest, the absence of the aptX codec was not an issue during the week-long testing phase. The app allows you to equalize but I'm happy with it unaltered. The app allows you to individualise further settings and personalise playback.
