The great thing about the Shred is its versatility. The key componentry and the frame and fork are still confidently jump-proof and the alloy frame and front end feels consistently lively despite the overall weight. Its mountain bike tyres cut speed and flow on smooth trails and of course gears add noise and potential problems for pure jump work. Add the gears, a seatpost you can run right up to proper pedalling height and grippy High Roller tyres and this feels and looks like a normal mountain bike. The XL tubing means no need for extra reinforcement on the front end either and the deep chainstays and rectangular seatstays are plenty buff enough to take the big stuff. As well as looking like a standard mountain bike the ride position is also long for a dirt jump bike, although different sizes are available if you want something shorter.

The shred jumps really well for a cheap priced bike. The low bottom bracket height lends itself to thrashing the bike into corners, and the low centre of gravity helped keep us balanced. This bike is okay for dirt jumps preety solid on trails. The build kit on the Kona is pretty good for the price tag, arriving with components such as hydraulic disc brakes and a RockShox fork. The Shred has more of a bend in the frame near the seat stem, where the Shred just is straight. The chain always falls off because of your cheap derailleur Kona needs to fix this problem.
